Powerhouse vocalist and ARIA Award winner Anthony Callea is undoubtedly one of Australia’s finest vocalists and entertainers with a career now spanning 20 years, 8 albums, TV Concert Specials, countless concert tours, major event performances and TV show appearances.
Anthony Callea has had 3 albums debut at #1 on the ARIA album charts, joining a very exclusive club made up of Australian music royalty - John Farnham, Kylie Minogue, Jimmy Barnes, Keith Urban, The John Butler Trio, Guy Sebastian and Delta Goodrem - as the only Australian artists in history to have three or more albums debut at #1.
His debut single, The Prayer remains the fastest selling single in Australian history. October 2024 marked 20 years since his performance of The Prayer on Australian Idol, a performance that stopped Australian audiences in their tracks with one of the most memorable TV moments to date.
Anthony’s most recent album FORTY LOVE, which marked his 40th Birthday, was released in October 2022 and impressively debuted at No.5 on the ARIA album chart alongside a No.1 chart debut on the AIR album charts.
FORTY LOVE marked an evolution for Anthony, with key tones of maturity, honesty, and authenticity, being a testament to this stage of his life. This period sees him extremely comfortable in his own skin, with a quiet realisation that with age comes acceptance of what you’ve achieved and lived through in life, but also the exciting fact that there is still so much ahead to constantly achieve and experience. It is also his first fully independent album which he co-produced, co-wrote 11 original tracks and which also features a very special re-imagined acoustic version of The Prayer which is dedicated to his loyal and supportive fans.
Anthony’s adoring fans are at the core of what drives and sees him constantly touring and performing across the country. Over the years he has been handpicked to perform for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and Pavarotti amongst others, and toured with the likes of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Diana Ross.
On stage, Anthony has starred in major musical productions Wicked, Rent and Grease. On TV, he has mentored contestants on Ultimate School Musical: Fame (Fox) and It Takes Two (Seven). In 2016 Anthony conquered the South African jungle as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here (Ten) and has performed on stage at Carols by Candlelight on Nine over the past 20 years.
In April 2023 Anthony released his memoir, Behind The Voice - Dietro La Voce, which is a candid story of determination, humility and self-discovery. In his amusing and emotional memoir, Anthony shares the joys and challenges of becoming celebrated for his voice, all while navigating the adversities and triumphs of life. It’s a story of a kid from the working-class western suburbs of Melbourne with a big dream and an even bigger voice, who had to finish growing up and find himself in the spotlight. Anthony shares the personal and professional highs and lows of his enviable career, giving readers a raw insight into almost two decades in the entertainment industry. His candid, courageous and often amusing anecdotes take readers beyond the slick facade to the hard work, blood, sweat and tears it takes to find success performing, touring, writing and producing music.
2023 also saw Anthony on tour with his husband Tim Campbell on their ‘Up Close & Unpredictable’ live music concert experience with an incredible 27 sold out shows across the country. In November 2024 Anthony and Tim played yet another series of sold out shows at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall and Sydney Opera House celebrating the Songs of Elton John and George Michael and in 2025 they will embark on a 28-date live national tour taking the show on the road across Australia.
