When Sienna was just 4 weeks old, her parents, Kiara and Matt, noticed something unusual about her vision. Following numerous tests, when Sienna was 7 months old, she was diagnosed with Leber’s congenital amaurosis, a rare genetic condition resulting in vision loss and blindness.

Kiara and Matt were referred to Vision Australia by Sienna’s ophthalmologist during one of her early appointments. Within two days, Vision Australia contacted the family to assist with early intervention and NDIS support. “Things happened fast, and although very confronting, I don’t know where we would be without the support and guidance of Vison Australia,” Kiara explains.  

“We hope that Sienna grows up to be a strong independent lady, who can tackle any challenge that comes her way. She is already proving to us that she can do everything every other child can her age, just in her own way and time. We feel so proud to be her parents and watching her learn and develop is really beautiful,” Kiara continues. 

This Christmas, Kiara and Matt look forward to spending time with loved ones and being present in the moment. Following Sienna’s diagnosis, they no longer take the little things for granted and prioritize quality time with their family.
