When Iko was dealt the double blow of leukemia and vision loss at the end of 2022, it changed everything. But it didn’t change who he was: a curious, determined little boy who loves rockets, trains and the slide at the playground.  

And despite all the immense challenges facing him, Iko is now thriving because people like you can see him for who is. You can see his potential.

Because of fundraisers like Carols by Candlelight and the generosity of supporters like you, Iko was able to receive expert support from the Vision Australia team without delay. This gave him and his family the tools to face his challenges with confidence.  

When Iko was hospitalised with cancer, his Mum, Anne, spent three months in hospital with him away from her other children. She missed her older son’s first day of school. And she missed birthdays and Christmas.  

When families like Iko’s are in the throes of that first diagnosis, it’s hard for them to see a bright future. But thanks to support and community, they don’t need to go through this time alone. The funds raised through Carols by Candlelight makes early intervention possible even before government funding begins, when families need it the most.
